Arul Suthananthan

Mr Arul Edward Suthananthan is a specialist surgeon in liver transplant, hepato-pancreatico-biliary (HPB) and general surgery. He has expertise in open as well as advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery for gallbladder disease, hernia repair, liver resection and pancreatic surgery.

He completed his general surgical training in Perth and gained fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2018. He then completed extensive training in liver transplant and HPB surgery in Perth, Brisbane and Birmingham, UK. He is a fellowship member of the Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand Hepatic, Pancreatic and Biliary Association (AANZHPBA).

Upon completing his training, he worked as a consultant surgeon in his specialised field at the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, the largest HPB and liver transplant unit in Europe. Having returned to Perth, he is affiliated with the WA Liver and Kidney Transplant Unit at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and practices privately at St John of God Subiaco.

Mr Suthananthan has a special interest in surgical management of liver and pancreatic cancers. He takes an individualised approach to the clinical needs of his patient, utilising the latest clinical evidence and surgical techniques.
